A family-owned fish and chips business has opened their newest Ayrshire eatery today as chippy lovers get set to sample the latest fried offerings.
Blue Lagoon, owned by the Varese family, opened the doors to their Ayr Sandgate venue following announcing their takeover plans from the iconic Wellington Restaurant in October last year.
The Wellington shut up shop after 54 years in the town, with owners Roberto and Antonio Iannotti retiring to focus on their health and ventures new.
Thankfully Ayr wouldn’t have to wait long to get their chippy fix at the popular spot as the Blue Lagoon got to work giving the nostalgic restaurant a makeover- including reopening upstairs for indoor dining.
Crews have been spotted working well into the evening this week to ensure the place was ready in time for opening weekend.
And now Blue Lagoon’s new premises is open to customers, boasting a bright and colourful nautical theme including coloured dangling buoy lights, fish scale inspired mosaic tiles and a fabulous feature wall depicting a large fishing boat.
Blue Lagoon director Alessandro Varese previously told Ayrshire Live: “We are fully refurbing the unit and will be implementing our trademark tropical theme design.
“It will be a 70 seater restaurant and takeaway with home deliveries available. There will be additional seating upstairs.
“We will be operating both the Alloway Street and Wellington branches at the same time as we feel there is enough demand, especially during peak season.”
The Blue Lagoon have multiple shops across Scotland with an already established presence in Ayr just off the High Street on Alloway Street.
The iconic name also has a takeaway on Main Street in Largs.
