Bradley Walsh tells Alison Hammond he should have won NTA over Ant and Dec too

Bradley Walsh told Alison Hammond he also should have beaten out Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly for the National Television Award on Thursday evening.

The Geordie duo continued their 20-year winning streak for Best Presenter, despite being absent from proceedings after testing positive for Covid-19.

However, during the National Television Awards the This Morning star teased that she should have scooped the award for Best Presenter at Wembley's OVO Arena in London.

When she took to the podium to accept This Morning's Best Daytime award, Alison seized her opportunity to joke she ‘should have won.’

In her speech, Alison said: “We are all so grateful for this award, honestly. I think This Morning is a mood.

Bradley Walsh quipped that he should have won over Ant and Dec (ITV)

“Now we all know I should have won one of these as well. Bradley Walsh and Ant and Dec are amazing but I should have won, innit?”

Alison then spoke with The Chase host on Friday’s episode of This Morning, as he called into the programme from the ITV game show studio in the middle of a recording session.

He told Alison and co-host Dermot O’Leary: “We’ve stopped to talk to you. When I say the Chase, I mean the BAFTA award winning and NTA award winning.”

He continued telling Alison her speech after the This Morning win was ‘very, very good’, adding: “I know you said you should have won that award, you should have won on your own. I should have won on my own!”

Alison said that being in that category with Bradley was 'incredible' (ITV)

Alison replied: “First of all, to be in that category was amazing, but to be in that category with you Mr Bradley Walsh, was incredible.”

Bradley then said: “I’ll tell you what, I seriously missed out only by a whisker because at 3 o’clock I went down to Somerset House and I changed my name by deed poll to Anthony Declan Donnelly McPartlin and I just by a whisker didn’t get it in on time.”

The pair then laughed along as Bradley added: “It was a lovely night. You were so funny. You were brilliant.”

Earlier in the programme, Alison told ITV viewers she thought she heard Strictly Come Dancing stars Nikita Kuzmin and Ellie Simmonds read out her own name at the awards ceremony.

Alison said to Dermot: “You were the funniest partner. You sat next to me and you just made me laugh the whole show.

“The funniest thing is – obviously I was up for an award – and I heard Ant and Dec being called, but in my head, I heard Alison.”

Laughing, she continued: “Then I reached across to Dermot and said, ‘Did they say Alison?’ And Dermot went ‘No, they didn’t say Alison’. It was so shameful.”

Dermot replied: “It’s quite hard to hear in the room, so when you said it to me I just thought you were joking.”
