Bradley Chubb explains why Vic Fangio is one of his favorite coaches

During Miami Dolphins linebacker Bradley Chubb’s football career, he’s had a number of coaches from high school to college to the pros.

Since entering the league back in 2018, he’s played for four different head coaches, and he’s about to have his fifth different defensive coordinator. Lucky for him, however, his new defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, is also his former head coach, so there’s a familiarity there.

In fact, Chubb enjoyed his time playing for Fangio during their time together with the Denver Broncos. During the linebacker media’s availability on Tuesday, he explained why he thinks so highly of the coach.

“Yeah, that’s one of my favorite coaches that I’ve been in a room with just because he expects so much out of his players, and he’s going to keep it straight up with you,” Chubb said. “If he calls a play and you didn’t execute, he’s going to ask you, ‘Why didn’t you execute? I put you in a position to execute. Why didn’t you?’ So in this high-paced game we play, that’s what you need. You just need that transparency. You need somebody to be on you a little bit to hold you to that standard that we hold ourselves to. That’s what he’s going to do and I’m excited about it.”

Miami moved on from Josh Boyer as defensive coordinator this offseason after a tough year for the team, defensively. The Dolphins ranked 24th in scoring defense (24.1 points allowed per game) and 19th in total defense (342.6 yards allowed per game). And, while they certainly had their fair share of injuries on that side of the ball, decision-making on Boyer’s part was a big reason for his firing.

Fangio has the experience an respect of coaches and players around the league, and with guys like Chubb speaking for him, he should be able to quickly command the room and help turn the unit into one that is among the league’s best.
