Brad Pitt uses Golden Globes speech with Leonardo DiCaprio to weigh in on the greatest Titanic debate of all time

At Sunday night's Golden Globes, Brad Pitt took home one of the most anticipated awards of the night for his supporting actor role as Cliff Booth in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

And though it had been 24 years since his last Golden Globe (for 1996’s 12 Monkeys), it was Pitt’s speech that garnered the most attention.

The 56-year-old actor earned quite a few laughs, most notably when he thanked his co-star (and co-presenter for the night) Leonardo DiCaprio.

“I also have to thank my partner in crime, LDC,” Pitt began. “I use to watch, year after year, his co-stars accept awards and get up and thank him profusely. I know why, he's an all-star and he's a gent, and I wouldn't be here without you man, I thank you,” he said.

“Still, I would've shared the raft,” Pitt added, referencing DiCaprio’s 1997 film, Titanic. Though we’re pretty sure Pitt meant the floating door (or just general debris if you want to get technical), he didn’t leave any room for misinterpretation that he stands with DiCaprio’s character Jack in the long-standing debate that Kate Winslet’s Rose could have saved his life if she’d just scooted over a bit.

Pitt also seemingly used his acceptance speech to address recent dating rumors linking him to actress Alia Shawkat (or possibly just to poke fun at the fact that exes Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow and Christina Applegate were all in attendance at the Globes).

After thanking his family, Pitt added, “I wanted to bring my mom, but I couldn't because any woman I stand next to, they say I'm dating. It'd just be awkward.”

Pitt’s remark had the audience breaking out into laughter, and it had Twitter users zooming in on Jennifer Aniston’s reaction to the joke.

Ending his speech on a more serious note, Pitt stated, "If you see a chance to be kind to someone tomorrow, take it - I think we need it."
