Brad Pitt has reportedly sold his longtime home in Los Feliz, California, for almost $40 million – near the amount he had hoped for – in an off-market listing.
The Babylon actor quietly placed the compound for sale in January after hints that he wants to downsize to a smaller place in Los Angeles. Since purchasing the home from actress Cassandra Peterson in 1994 (for $1.7 million), Brad transformed the estate into one of the world's best homes – comprising several lots adjacent to the main property.
The home never appeared on the open market, and records do not yet reflect a change of ownership; however, an anonymous source told Entertainment Tonight that the house was sold for 'nearly $40 million'. Dirt adds that Jonathan Mogharrabi at Compass and Marci Kays at The Agency represented Brad Pitt during the deal.
Because the home was never publicly listed, glimpses of the interiors are hard to come by, and the actor's private garden (including towering wooden gates and hedges) also makes it hard to know what its exterior includes.
Its history, however, is slightly more well-known after it served as the former residence of Brad Pitt's ex-wife, actress Angelina Jolie. The couple raised their children Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne there before their divorce in 2016.
In a 2017 interview with GQ, the actor said the compound was their primary 'childhood home'. However, it was just one of several properties Brad and Angelina shared throughout their relationship.
Arial photographs show hints of what the family enjoyed – including (what appears to be) a swimming pool, palm-tree-filled pasture, and a path of stairs that lead to outdoor dining and entertaining areas.
Brad, who is said to be an avid architecture and design enthusiast, also created a series of other structures beyond the main house – all of which are seen in photographs taken above the estate.
The actor had worked with the Berlin-based multidisciplinary design studio Graft to create a reimagined home that served as a stylish studio/residence. Per their website, Pitt Studio 'grafts the Chigaidana of Japanese furniture with the European idea of the golden ratio'.
Where does Brad Pitt live now?
Despite calling his compound home for 30 years, Brad Pitt owns multiple properties around the US. Most notably, the actor purchased the D. L. James House in the Carmel area of Monterey County following his divorce from Angelina Jolie. Throughout his career, the actor has also owned residences in Hollywood, the south of France, Mallorca, and New York City.
