Brad Pitt confessed he used alcohol as a means of "escape" while his marriage to Angelina Jolie was coming crashing down.
In the wake of the split, the Hollywood heartthrob, 55, confessed he decided to quit alcohol because it was a "disservice" to himself in a new interview.
Once Upon A Time's Brad kicked the boozing shortly after he and Angelina went public with their split in September 2016.
In a new discussion for Interview magazine , the actor opened up about his struggle with booze to his 1944 Legends of the Fall and 1998 Meet Joe Black co-star Anthony Hopkins.
He told the publication: "Well, I just saw it as a disservice to myself, as an escape."
Anthony stated "it was necessary" to which Brad replied "to some degree".
He elaborated: "To some degree [it was necessary], yes."
In his first explosive GQ cover interview after the Angelina split, Brad admitted he could drink a Russian under the table with vodka.
The Fury actor called himself a "professional" drinker.
Of drinking, he said: "Truthfully I could drink a Russian under the table with his own vodka. I was a professional. I was good."
The dad-of-six shared his secrets on how he kicked the habit of boozing because he didn't want to live like that anymore.
He added: "Don't want to live that way anymore."
Brad and Angelina were a showbiz power couple, having been together for 12 years.
They were married in August 2014 but their love wasn't made to last as they split in September 2016.
Rumours had been swirling Brad was enjoying a romance with Alia Shawkat but a source close to People shared they are simply friends.
