Brad Marchand set a new Boston playoff goals record with his 56th goal as the Bruins secured a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 4 on Saturday night. The win puts Boston within reach of advancing to the second round of the playoffs.

Marchand, who also contributed an assist, was instrumental in the Bruins' success. James van Riemsdyk and David Pastrnak also found the back of the net, while Jeremy Swayman made 24 saves to help secure the win for Boston. The Bruins now have the opportunity to close out the series on Tuesday night at home.

Despite Toronto's efforts, they struggled to overcome the Bruins' defensive structure. Toronto's Mitch Marner managed to score, but the absence of Auston Matthews in the third period due to illness proved to be a setback for the Maple Leafs. However, forward William Nylander returned to the lineup after missing the first three games of the series due to an undisclosed injury.

The Maple Leafs' goaltending saw Ilya Samsonov start in goal, making 14 saves in the first two periods, with Joseph Woll stepping in to make five saves in the third period. Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe acknowledged the challenges his team faced, praising their effort despite the outcome.

Van Riemsdyk, a former Toronto player, opened the scoring for Boston in the first period. Marchand extended Boston's lead with a power-play goal in the second period, setting a new franchise record for playoff goals. Pastrnak added another goal late in the second period to give the Bruins a commanding 3-0 lead.

Marner managed to get Toronto on the board in the third period, but it was not enough to overcome the Bruins' lead. The frustration was evident on the Toronto bench as the game progressed, with visible tensions among the players.

The victory puts the Bruins in a strong position to advance to the next round, continuing their rivalry with the Maple Leafs in the playoffs. Boston will look to capitalize on their momentum in the upcoming games to secure their spot in the second round.
