A toddler was rushed to the hospital after a nursery worker accidentally squirted glue into his eyes while trying to fix her false nails.
Jack Culverhouse, one, was taken to hospital after his face swelled and his eyelashes were glued together at First Steps Day Nursery, Skipton, North Yorkshire.
The nursery worker had accidentally squirted the youngster in the eyes as she tried to fix her false nails while holding him on September 24.
Jack has the glue removed at a hospital and his eyesight was said to not have been affected.
Ofsted has launched a probe over what happened and the nursery worker involved has since been fired.
Jack’s mum Aimee, 18, is now planning to sue the nursery.
The student, from Skipton, told The Sun: “I got a phone call saying Jack had glue in his eye.
“I’m angry and upset. I put all my trust in them and then this happens.
“His sight won’t be affected but I think he’s traumatised.
"He used to sleep through the night and now he’s scared."
A spokesperson for the nursery told The Mirror: “We acted immediately when the incident happened, with staff giving first aid and on paramedics’ advice when we phoned for an ambulance, we took the child to hospital for treatment. We take the care and safety of all the children at our nursery extremely seriously, it is our main priority.
"As such we implemented our safeguarding protocols, informing both the local authority and Ofsted of this incident. The member of staff involved was immediately suspended from work and following our investigation was ultimately dismissed.
"Ofsted attended and inspected the nursery on Monday 10th October and have no concerns with the operation of the nursery or the actions we have taken. This was clearly a very distressing incident for the family and the child, we have maintained contact throughout and kept them updated with the progress and outcomes of the investigations conducted by us and by Ofsted.
"This was an isolated incident and the first time we have had any incident in over 25 years of operation. We are relieved that the child involved is recovering well.”
The Mirror contacted Ofsted for a comment.
