Boy runs into pub for help after being approached in the street

A gang of thugs on bikes threatened a boy with a metal baton after demanding he handed over his e-bike.

Merseyside Police were called to Hoylake Road in Moreton, Wirral, after 5.15pm on Monday, May 15, following reports of an attempted robbery. It was reported to officers a boy was riding on his electric bike when he was approached by five suspects, two of which were on a moped and three on bikes.

The suspects rode alongside the victim and demanded he handed over his e-bike. When he refused, one of them threatened him with a metal baton while another kicked him in the leg.

The victim escaped and went inside a pub on Hoylake Road. No one was seriously injured during the attack.

Two of the bikes believed to be used by suspects from the robberies were later seized by Merseyside Police on Tuesday, May 16 when they raided an address in Moreton. A 15-year-old boy from the area was arrested on suspicion of robbery, handling stolen goods and theft of a bike.

The arrest relates to a series of attempted robberies in the area between Sunday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 17. The teenager was taken to a police station in Merseyside where he remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Emma Kerrigan said: “After officers analysed several photos and CCTV footage of the suspects following the incidents between Sunday 7 May and Wednesday 17 May a successful warrant was executed in Moreton to prevent any further crime in the area.

“I would like to thank members of the community who provided vital information which led to the arrest this morning. I hope this response shows that such violence will not be tolerated in our community and we are determined to find anyone who was responsible and bring them to justice.

“Our detectives would still like to hear from anyone who saw the incident on Hoylake Road or any other similar incidents in Moreton, Leasowe or Greasby between Sunday 7 May and Wednesday 17 May. I would also urge anyone who lives in the area and has any doorbell or CCTV footage to check your devices in case they captured the incident or anything suspicious from Monday evening.

“Any piece of information could support our ongoing enquiries and prevent violence in our community.”
