Boy dies after being attacked by dog in Cowra

A toddler has died after being attacked by at least one dog in Central West NSW.

The two-year-old suffered serious injuries to his face and neck when he was bitten at a motel in Cowra this morning.

Police officers were called to the Country Gardens Motor Inn on Grenfell Road at about 10:20am on Tuesday, following reports the boy had been critically injured.

By the time they attended the scene a member of the public had already taken the child to the local hospital, police said in a statement.

The boy was airlifted to Westmead Hospital where he died a short time ago.

The local council has seized two dogs from the scene.

Superintendent Bob Noble from Chifley Police District said after they were called to the scene they were "very worried about the child".

"The child's mother was distraught as you can imagine," he said.

"There certainly were two dogs at the scene but it's unclear what part one or both those dogs played," he said.

The police officer said he was unsure whether the child and his mother were guests of the motel at the time as police investigations into the incident continue.
