Boy, 8, tells dad he 'didn't want to die' after being savaged by 3 sharks on holiday

A boy told his father he didn't want to die after he got attacked by sharks on holiday.

Finley Downer, eight, was attacked by at least three nurse sharks while in the Bahamas with this family.

He had to be dragged to safety as the boy was bitted on both of his legs, leaving chunks of his flesh hanging off.

Sales director Michael had flown to the tropical islands with his three children, Finley, Lily, nine, and Emily, 12, last week

They were on a five-island excursion that had guides swimming with iguanas, pigs and nurse sharks at Compass Cay.

At one point, the family saw sharks swimming among a crowd of people in a lagoon and without realising they were being fed scraps they jumped in.

Dad Michael, 44, told The Sun : “My son could have been killed. It was like a scene out of Jaws.”

Michael said: “Suddenly, I heard a terrifying scream and saw dozens circling Finley.

“There was so much blood. Bits of his leg was hanging off.

“He kept saying, ‘Dad I don’t want to die. Dad I don’t want to go to heaven.”

Finley was dragged out of the water by his sister and he was rushed to the nearest clinic on a golf buggy.

Michael later forked out £2,000 for a flight to get to Nassau where Finley underwent a three-hour operation.

The family are now back home in Kettering, Northants.

Finley is still using a wheelchair.

Michael claims the tour guides said the sharks were safe, but Exuma Escapes, the operator, told The Sun that the family went into the water without a guide into a lagoon not used on its tour.

Nurse sharks are bottom-feeders and are typically harmless to humans.

Nurse sharks will bite defensively if stepped on or bothered.

They can grow to be up to 14 feet.

The Mirror contacted Exuma Escapes for a comment.
