Boy, 5, killed after being hit by a lorry 'while cycling on his Spider-Man bike'

A young child has reportedly died after being hit by a vehicle, family friends have confirmed.

The boy, aged just five, was left with fatal injuries after the incident in Walsall this afternoon.

It is thought he was riding his Spider-Man bike before he was hit by a vehicle.

Police cordoned of the scene of the crash in West Bromwich Road for hours as they investigated the tragedy, reports BirminghamLive.

Friends of the distraught family confirmed at the scene, near the junction of The Broadway, the young boy died after the road traffic collision.

They said: "The little one has died," according the Black Country Live.

Two men at the scene, who are supporting the bereaved family, said that what happened was a tragedy.

A woman at the scene added: “I heard sirens earlier today. It’s so sad what has happened, that poor boy."

While another local, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I’m not sure what happened but this road can be so dangerous.”

Another man, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “I’ve heard that a young lad has died. It’s just so very sad.”

Drivers had to find alternative routes and were advised to avoid the area after it was plastered with blue and white emergency tape. It has since been reopened.

Along the road near the cordon a bin lorry was parked in the middle of the residential road, which has since been recovered.

West Midlands Police have bee contacted for more information on the incident.
