A teenage boy died after fireworks were 'hurled' in a street by yobs on Bonfire Night. The 17-year-old died from his injuries after reportedly jumping over a fence and landing in a greenhouse.
Police have launched an investigation to try to piece together what happened in the moments leading up to the teenager's death on Saturday night (November 5). An eyewitness told Yorkshire Live fireworks were being thrown in the street at the time the teenager was found injured.
She described the scenes as "horrendous". West Yorkshire Police confirmed officers were in the street in Halifax at the time due to fireworks being set off.
The boy was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries. The area where the incident happened remained sealed off on Sunday for forensic examinations.
The force said it has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). A spokesperson said: "Police were called by the ambulance service just before 8.15pm on Saturday, November 5, following reports of an injured male in the garden of a property in Vickerman Street, Halifax. A 17-year-old male was taken to hospital where he died.
"Scene is open and force has referred itself to the IOPC as police had been called to the street beforehand due to fireworks being set off."
