A teenage boy has died after getting into difficulties at a quarry, police confirmed.
Cops were called at 9.40pm last night after reports that a 16-year-old had entered the water and got into difficulty at Dawber Delph, Appley Bridge, Lancashire.
The boy's body was pulled from the water by emergency services and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A file will be passed to the coroner in due course, Lancashire Police said.
In a statement, the force added: "A boy has sadly died following an incident at a quarry.
"We were called by the Ambulance Service around 9.40pm yesterday (Saturday, July 9) to a report a boy had entered the water and got into difficulty at Dawber Delph, Appley Bridge.
"Emergency services attended the scene and following a search the body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered from the water. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
"His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service said: "We were called at 21:36 on the 9th July 2022 to Dawber Delph, Appley Bridge to assist Lancashire Police and North West Ambulance Service in the search for one person in the water.
"Three fire engines, a boat and the drone team were deployed. Tragically the casualty died at the scene. Our thoughts are with their loved ones."
