Boy, 15, dies after lake tragedy at Beckenham Place Park in south-east London

Beckenham Place Park -

A teenage boy has died after getting into difficulty in a lake at Beckenham Place Park in south-east London.

Police and paramedics were called to the park in Lewisham shortly after 3pm on Friday following reports of a boy going missing in the water.

Specialist diving teams, the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended the scene. The boy, initially reported by police as being 16 years old but later confirmed to be 15, was recovered from the lake at about 10.42pm.

He was rushed to hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said on Saturday: "His death is being treated as unexpected but is not believed to be suspicious. His family are aware and continue to receive support."

A search operation at the lake was stood down following the tragic discovery.
