Boy, 15, collapses and dies after 'medical incident on football pitch' at school

A 15-year-old boy suddenly collapsed and died after a medical incident on a football pitch near a secondary school.

Emergency services rushed to a school in Edinburgh, shortly before 3pm afternoon.

A teenage boy had collapsed at Forrester High School, in the Scottish capital, and despite the best efforts of paramedics he tragically died on a football pitch near the school.

Police and ambulances were spotted in the area mid-afternoon and heartbroken members of the public have been invited to a local church this evening to reflect and pray on the incident.

A short post from St David's Broomhouse Parish Church read: "Following the difficult circumstances earlier today, the church will be open tonight, 2000-2100 (8pm-9pm) for quiet reflection and the opportunity to light a candle. All are welcome."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On Tuesday, March 14, police were called to a report of a 15-year-old boy having collapsed on Broomhouse Road. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

There was an outpouring of grief online following the tragedy as well-wishers sent their thoughts and prayers to the boy, his family and the school affected.
