Phil Garner, 37, who lives in Gedling and works for the library department at Nottingham Trent Uni, said: “I was on the 45 bus and I know that got diverted from the back of Woodborough road right through St Ann’s. I got off at around 5.15/5.30pm and it had clearly been going on already.

"The traffic wasn’t too bad actually I think everyone had been doing rats runs around the roads to get by it. It’s actually surprisingly busy on this road (outside the Aldi) now that it’s been cleared."

The incident happened near St Jude's Avenue.

Inspector Peter Shaw, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Police were called to reports of a collision between a car and a 14-year-old boy on Woodborough Road, Mapperley, at around 3.35pm on Friday (18 March 2022).

“The boy sustained a head injury not thought to be life-threatening or life-altering and has been taken to hospital, where he will remain overnight as a precaution.

“Emergency services attended the scene to resolve the incident and the road was closed for a number of hours.

“The road has now been reopened and we would like to thank drivers for their patience.

“We would ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has information or dashcam footage to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 544 of 18 March 2022.”
