A 13-year-old boy has died and six other pupils are in hospital after becoming unwell when they ate some biscuits at school.
Police are investigating after the schoolboy, Mahin Hossain, died and his classmates became ill at Narayanpur Ashraful Madaris Qawmi Madrasa, a school in Jashore, Bangladesh.
A doctor at the Sharsha Upazila Health Complex said that the children were rushed to the hospital and that another child was in a very serious condition.
Dr Siddiqur Rahman reportedly said: “Of them, one was declared dead while another student was referred to Jashore General Hospital as his condition deteriorated.”
A teacher, Anarul Islam, at the school told how the pupils suddenly became ill on Thursday afternoon after eating the biscuits which had been sent by the brother-in-law.
Mr Islam said that the children were taken to the hospital were the on-duty doctor declared that the 13-year-old boy had died, reported the TheDailyStar.net.
Mamun Khan, an officer at Sharsha Police Station, said that an investigation had now been launched while they are waiting for an autopsy report on the dead boy.
Meanwhile, a Brit dad and son have been found dead with the rest of their family unconscious after a suspected poisoning in Bangladesh this week.
Police in the south Asian country discovered the family of five at a flat in the city of Sylhet in the east of the country.
Local cops identified the father as Rafiqul Islam, a taxi driver in his 50s, who was found dead alongside his 16-year-old son Michael.
Rafiqul's wife Hosne Ara Islam, 40, their daughter Samira Islam, 19, and son Sadikul Islam, 21, were also found unconscious and are now being treated at a local hospital.
One of the surviving children is understood to be in a critical condition.
The family are British citizens from the Riverside area of Cardiff and travelled to Bangladesh this month, Wales Online reports.
The family's elder son is called Sadiqul and he is 24 years old, according to UK records.
Police have confirmed they came to Bangladesh on July 12 and that they moved into the flat where they were found on July 18.
