An 11-year-old boy has died after plunging to his death at a Costa Blanca hotel while practicing parkour.
Several tourists are thought to have witnessed the horror as he landed in the hotel reception area after falling more than 50ft.
He was rushed critically injured from the scene but died late last night in hospital in Alicante.
The hotel, in Alfaz del Pi near Benidorm, has not yet been named.
The drama occurred around 3pm on Sunday.
A spokesman for Spain’s Civil Guard said: “We are investigating but everything is pointing to the tragedy being the result of negligence on the part of the youngster who died.
“He wasn’t staying at the hotel in Alfaz del Pi where it happened and got onto the roof of the building with another friend to practice parkour.
“In an accident he appears to have fallen about 52ft, landing in the reception hall on the ground floor.
“He was taken to hospital in a very severe state, first Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa and then Alicante General University Hospital, where he died on Sunday night around 11.30pm.
“The dead child is a Norwegian boy aged 11 who lived in Alfaz del Pi.
“That is the only information we have at the moment.”
Officers have declined to name the hotel but sources said there were a number of people believed to be tourists in the reception area when the first police arrived.
One said: “Emergency responders started getting calls almost immediately after the boy fell.”
Parkour is an urban sport in which people attempt to get from one place to another, usually across buildings and at height, in the fastest and most efficient way possible.
In August a teenager fell to his death from the roof of a 17-storey building in Hong Kong while practicing parkour with two friends.
Another tragedy hit the Spanish region during peak holiday season thi syear.
A 74-year-old Brit died while he was taking a dip in the sea at a Costa Blanca beach in August.
He reportedly lost consciousness while he was in the water at a beach next to Moraira Castle called La Ampolla Beach.
Lifeguards brought him onto the sand and tried to revive him before paramedics reached the scene and continued to practice CPR.
But they were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
