Boy, 10, and dad drown at beach in front of devastated mum who has lost 'will to live'

A mum has told how she has lost the “will to live” after her husband and son, 10, drowned at a popular Australian beach.

Sara, 36, said she looked away for a second and then saw her husband Peter and son Mahan both in the sea after being caught by a freak wave as they fished at Little Bay, in Sydney.

Mahan was on the final day of his school holidays when he and his dad were killed after being thrown off a rock face where they were fishing.

They had just arrived at the beach for a last treat before Mahan returned to school when the tragedy struck.

Sara said she was also splashed by the water and then looked again to see the two in the swell.

She and other onlookers watched helplessly as they both drowned.

Sara, speaking to the Daily Telegraph, said: “My husband and my son were just a few steps in front of me and now they are gone forever.

“I wish it was me instead of my little boy. I don’t have the will to live.”

Sara, a student nurse, now wants to highlight the dangers of the beach as she said her family had no idea of the threat, while there were no signs warning people.

It is not the first tragedy to happen at the beach, said Sara, and she wants signs to be put up to warn people about the dangers.

She told how she had moved with her husband, a “hard working man”, to Australia 12 years ago.

In a tribute to her son she said he was “perfect” and a “kind and respectful” boy who had an interest in nature.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise money for her as she comes to terms with her loss and looks for a job to support herself.

It reads: "We are assisting the family of the father and young son who tragically passed away on Monday, 31st January 2022, at Little Bay, Sydney, with their Final Goodbyes.

"The wife and mother watched on as her only son and husband were swept away from her, will now have to cease her studies training as a Registered Nurse to find a job as her husband was the sole breadwinner.

"Her whole world has changed, and it is unimaginable for us to comprehend. We are setting this fundraiser up to be able to provide the mother with assistance and assurance that she will have funds to support her, even for a little bit.

"We ask our community to band together and help assist this mother & wife whose life has completely changed forever.

"All funds raised will go directly to the family."
