Boxpark in Shoreditch is celebrating news it has been handed a new lease of life by giving more than 2,000 free meals to Londoners from Thursday.
It comes after the company announced it will be keeping its doors open until the end of September at its east London site, dubbed the world’s first pop-up mall.
Last summer, the company announced Boxpark at Shoreditch would close, but it will now remain open in what has been referred to as “a significant victory for independent businesses”.
Chief operating officer Ben McLaughlin previously said this “provides certainty to the 47 small, independent businesses, and hundreds of their employees across our Shoreditch site.
He said: “We are absolutely thrilled to continue our journey in Shoreditch and remain committed to providing a platform for independent businesses and a vibrant space for our customers.”
Celebrating what Boxpark has called “exciting” news, to commemorate the year the mall opened, 2,011 free meal tokens will be given to Londoners.
Some 500 will become available each day starting at 11am and will be given out until Sunday on a first-come, first-served basis.
Londoners have been advised to speak with the site’s Hungry 4 More hosts at the front door to claim the meals.
Boxpark said tokens for the giveaway, which have a value of £10, are redeemable against food only.
They will secure each customer one meal from the traders participating.
The company wrote on Instagram: “Make sure you’re first in the queue to get a food token to guarantee a free street food eat, but with only a limited amount each day, you’ll need to be quick”.
