Former boxing world champion Scott Harrison has announced his retirement from the sport, and revealed that his dad Peter is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.
The 44-year-old from Cambuslang posted news of his retirement two days after his latest fight was cancelled moments before the opening bell.
Razak Nettey pulled out of their proposed fight in Wishaw on Saturday evening.
Harrison Tweeted: “I would like to announce my retirement from boxing, more bad memories than good.
“Should have [kept] working for the council as a joiner. All the best God bless.”
But the former WBO, Commonwealth and British featherweight champion has also posted the devastating news of his dad.
Peter Harrison, who runs Phoenix Boxing Gym in Glasgow, was Scott’s chief coach and cornerman during his high-profile boxing career.
In a social media message, Scott wrote: “With this post it breaks my heart to say my Da has Alzheimer’s.
“Thanks Da, for making me become a world champion through your hard work, coaching and self-belief, and always being there for me.
“Cheers Da, God bless.”
