Boxing icon Roberto Durán, aged 72, underwent a successful pacemaker implant procedure following health issues that led to his hospitalization over the weekend. The Durán family shared the positive news on his Instagram account, expressing gratitude for the successful surgery.

The decision for the pacemaker implant was made after Durán experienced an atrioventricular blockage, which caused irregular heartbeats. His son, Robin Durán, clarified that the obstruction in his artery necessitated the pacemaker to regulate his heart rhythm.

Despite concerns about a potential heart attack or life-threatening risks, Robin Durán reassured that his father was stable upon admission to the Panama City hospital. Medical examinations promptly identified the blockage, prompting the need for the pacemaker.

Renowned for his boxing prowess, Durán is a four-weight world champion who retired in 2002 at the age of 50. Known by his moniker 'Hands of Stone,' Durán maintains an active presence in the boxing community, frequently traveling internationally to engage with fans, sign autographs, and support boxing events.

This recent health scare comes as a reminder of the importance of timely medical intervention and highlights the resilience of the legendary boxer. Fans and well-wishers worldwide are relieved by the successful outcome of Durán's pacemaker surgery and continue to show unwavering support for the beloved sports figure.
