His fighters turned their opponents into mincemeat, now he is trying to sell you some.
Renowned former boxing world champion and current boxing trainer, Robert Garcia, hasembarked on a new venture that goes beyond the realm of boxing. Garcia, hailing from the esteemed Garcia boxing family of Oxnard, California, is opening a meat market and Mexican restaurant in Riverside, California, solidifying his ties to the region. A meet and greet with world champion Bam Bam Rodriguez is schedueld at the market for later this year.
Raised in Oxnard, California, Robert Garcia’s journey to becoming a boxing icon is one of determination and resilience. Growing up in a modest household, he witnessed the hardships his strawberry-picking parents endured. Inspired by his father, Eduardo Garcia, who became a boxing trainer, Garcia found his calling in the sport. As a professional boxer, he achieved great success, competing from 1992 to 2001, and held the IBF junior lightweight title from 1998 to 1999.
Robert Garcia’s boxing acumen is not limited to his own accomplishments. As the head of the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy, he has nurtured and mentored a stellar stable of fighters, including the likes of Anthony Joshua, Marcos Maidana, Nonito Donaire, Vergil Ortiz Jr., Jose Ramirez, and his younger brother, Mikey Garcia. In a recent interview posted on his X account, Garcia shotdown the notion that Mikey Garcia would be facing Mayweather in an exhibition match in December. Videos of Mikey Garcia training, Robert Garcia said are not evidence of a looming fight date. Mikey is just staying in shape according to Garica.
With his academy already established in Riverside, Garcia, he now seeks to further expand his presence in the community through his latest venture.
Garcia’s new meat market/restaurant is called El Campeon Carniceria Market, aims to be more than just a culinary destination. It will serve as a gathering place for boxing enthusiasts, where they can savor delicious meals while immersing themselves in the spirit of the sport. The establishment will feature boxing memorabilia, creating an ambiance that celebrates the rich history and triumphs of the sport.
“El Campeon” is located at 3375 Iowa Ave, Riverside, CA 92507.
