Boxing fans turn against Tommy Fury after announcement about his next fight

Boxing fans have been left disappointed after Tommy Fury announced he will be an unknown opponent when he returns to the ring on November 12.

Fury will be in action in the co-main event of Floyd Mayweather's exhibition bout with YouTube star Deji next months and had been liked with former UFC champion Tyron Woodley. However, that fight was never close to being made and he has instead confirmed that he will face 5-2 American Bamba.

The former US Marine began boxing professionally last year with a minimal amateur background after a career coaching celebrities. He has trained in the past with MMA star Dillon Danis, but otherwise little is known about the young fighter who has been placed on a huge stage in the Middle East.

Fans have known about the bout for weeks, but Fury made it official with a tweet and Instagram post yesterday. And fans were not complimentary in the comments, with the general perception being that Bamba is "the wrong Paul," and that he should be fighting Jake Paul instead.

"Fighting the doorman again?" One fan asked, while another joked that Fury declaring he was "back where he belongs" was accurate given that he was on a YouTuber's undercard. "Bro went from being able to fight Jake Paul as main event and get paid the most money he’s ever been paid to being undercard of a Deji fight," another fan wrote.

Fury has signed to face Jake Paul twice over the last 12 months; first in Tampa, Florida last December and again this August at Madison Square Garden in New York. But a rib injury and then a travel issue getting to America cost him both big money fight dates, and he has competed just once in that time frame.

He was last out on the undercard of his brother Tyson's world heavyweight title defence against Dillian Whyte back in April before that August cancellation. He dropped and dominated 10-1 Daniel Bocianski, but was unable to stop him within the eight round distance.

Now, Fury is due to take on another fighter with a winning record, although none of Bamba's fights have happened on a broadcasted platform. His two losses were to an opponent with a record of 0-4 in Mexico and one who was 1-4 when he finally made his US debut earlier this year.
