Boxing fans hit out at Tyson Fury for "embarrassing" Derek Chisora fight

Boxing fans have been almost unanimous in their condemnation of Tyson Fury's third fight with Derek Chisora.

Fury and Chisora will meet for the third time on December 3 when Fury puts his heavyweight world title on the line at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Fury already holds two victories over Chisora and only turned to the Londoner after failing to agree terms with bitter rival Anthony Joshua.

And fans immediately took to social media to vent their anger, with one tweeting simply: "Embarrassing,"| while another said: "[You were] happy to wait all this time to sort contracts for Chisora but unwilling to wait for AJ." Another fan branded the fight "a farce" while another predicted there will be "empty seats everywhere".

Fury had planned to take on Oleksandr Usyk before Christmas to crown the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. But the Ukrainian revealed he will not be ready until early in 2023, forcing Fury to find another opponent.

His promoter Frank Warren said: "I am thrilled to be delivering a Tyson Fury world title defence in front of the British fans in London. Tyson clearly conquered America across his trilogy with Deontay Wilder and there is also huge demand to stage his fights from sites across the world.

"Tyson wanted to fight in his home country again this year following his special night at Wembley Stadium in April. This brings us to the magnificent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and a match against an old rival in Derek Chisora.

"Derek, also a big favourite with British fans, has reinvented himself in recent years and Tyson has long stated his wish to fight him for a third time. Tyson can’t afford any slip-up in this fight as he has the much-publicised undisputed match-up with Usyk in the New Year which we’re really looking forward to."
