Merseyrail trains won't run on Boxing Day as network hit by strikes
Merseyrail will no longer run trains on the network on Boxing Day.
Due to planned industrial action by Network Rail staff who are members of the RMT union, Merseyrail has been forced to make changes to its timetables running between December 24 and 27.
The train operator had planned to run a 30-minute service across the network on December 26, but said this is no longer possible following the latest round of industrial action announced by the RMT.

This also means that the last trains on Christmas Eve will now finish earlier than originally planned. Final services will run at approximately 4.30pm on December 24.

Masked men storm Royal Mail depot and steal parcels days before Christmas
Masked men stole parcels from a Royal Mail depot in Liverpool.
Merseyside police said two men, who were wearing black clothing with their faces covered, entered the loading bay area of the depot, on Harrington Road at around 8.20am on Friday, December 16. They targeted a worker who was putting parcels into a delivery van.
The two men took a number of the parcels before running to a silver Ford Transit van parked outside the depot. The van, which was driven by a third man, has then left the area towards the city centre.

'Caring' woman, 32, dies after house fire as fiancé fights for life
The family of a woman who died after a house fire said their lives have been “torn apart”.
Rebecca Foster, 32, was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at her home on Delph Lane in Daresbury in the early hours of Monday, December 12. She died in hospital on Wednesday December 14.
Her fiancé Kieran Naylor, 33, remains in a critical condition at Whiston Hospital. A Cheshire Police spokesman said an investigation into the fire is ongoing but the cause is not believed to be suspicious.
