Shakur Stevenson's world title win was spoiled as almost overshadowed when his mum was involved in a brawl during his post-fight press conference.
Stevenson remained unbeaten by recording the biggest win of his career against Oscar Valdez on Saturday night. In a one-sided display, 24-year-old Stevenson remained unbeaten by outpointing Valdez over 12 rounds and adding the WBC title to his collection.
The Olympic silver medalist was in good spirits whilst answering questions at his press conference, until something caught his attention. Stevenson then put down his world titles and left the stage as a brawl was taking place outside of the media room.
According to reports, two women are accused of attacking Stevenson’s mother which is why he rushed out of his interview to rescue her from the brawl.
Video footage of the incident shows several people involved before Las Vegas security try desperately to get the situation under control. Security and police eventually shut Stevenson, his friends and family inside a room to deescalate the scuffle as people are slowly cleared from the area.
Stevenson extended his unbeaten run to 18 fights with the win and proposed to his long time girlfriend Lyric after the fight. He wants to become undisputed at 130lb and also addressed a potential fight with WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney, who was ringside.
"I told y'all what I was going to do, I said I'm going to beat Valdez, Canelo and Eddy Reynoso. That was my gameplan, beat the whole team and I feel good about it. No disrespect to them, but that was my gameplan," he said.

"Oscar Valdez is a tough champion, I don't take nothing away from him. He's rough rugged, got good power and will be a champion after this. I'm a superstar in this sport, line them up and name them, I'm ready for whoever. I might go collect all the belts at 130lbs and become undisputed."
Haney is scheduled to fight unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr in June for the undisputed titles, but Stevenson is prepared to move up to 135lb for the first time as a professional to fight the unbeaten 23-year-old.
"Devin is definitely a huge fight for me, he's a hell of a fighter," he continued. "I have got nothing but respect and love for Devin, but we can line it up in the future too."
