East Kilbride boxer David Jamieson says achieving his boyhood dream of lifting a British title could lead to a summer world title shot.
The Westwood fighter is going for the IBO Intercontinental title as he headlines Dennis Hobson’s FightZone at Trump Turnberry on Friday, February 18, and is waiting for his opponent to be announced by co-promoter Sam Kynoch.
A win in that will open doors for the 29-year-old from Westwood, but he says it’s the culmination of 15 years’ hard work.
Jamieson said: “This will be a massive stepping stone in the right direction, because it will get me registered by the IBO.
“This could open serious doors for me, possibly on to world honours in two or three fights.
“Jack Massey has just picked up the IBO world title, he has also signed with FightZone, and is at my weight [cruiserweight] so it makes routes to a fight with them, maybe in the summer.
“That’s what the whole road-map has been about and it would be amazing.
“The boyhood dream has always been to pick up a British title, but if you could springboard on to world honours you couldn’t turn that down.
“My whole career, 15 years, to this point has been culminating in this, to lift my first title as a professional and then press on to bigger and better things.
“It’s the old cliché where everybody just sees the tip of the iceberg but they don’t actually see what’s under the water.
“It has been a lot of hard work and a lot of sore faces to get to this point, but we’re getting to the good bit now!”
Jamieson says he has never been better prepared for a fight, and added: “I can’t wait to get going, we’re bursting out of our skin to get in there now.
“We’ve trained right through Christmas, I was in the gym all last year, so we’re ready to go.
“It’s basically a case of getting the weight down for the last week, and then we’re there.”
