Bournemouth have suffered a second unfortunate injury update this week as Enes Unal has been ruled out for the season after suffering an ACL tear.
Bournemouth Injury Update: Enes Unal Joins Evanilson On Sidelines
The Cherries might have to consider signing an attacker in the January window, after Enes Unal joined Evanilson on the injury list in an update provided by the club.
Evanilson suffered a fractured metatarsal during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Everton. The Cherries confirmed in a statement that he had undergone surgery – a blow to their hopes of qualifying for Europe.
The week has gone from bad to worse for Andoni Iraola’s side after the latest Bournemouth injury update.
In a statement they wrote: “We are devastated to confirm that Enes Ünal has suffered a tear to his right anterior cruciate ligament during a training session this week.
“The Turkish striker, who has featured in every Cherries game since September, scoring two vital goals in our current club-record unbeaten run in the Premier League, experienced the contact injury in a routine drill on Tuesday morning.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with Enes at this moment as he begins to process another significant period of rehabilitation ahead. He will undergo surgery to repair the ligament in the coming days and the club’s medical and performance staff will support him in every way possible throughout.
“We are all behind Enes and will provide updates on his recovery progress when appropriate.”
Unal missed the first-half of the 2023-24 season with a cruciate ligament injury while at Getafe. He joined Bournemouth in the January transfer window of that season on loan, with the move turning permanent in the summer.
Bournemouth Attacking Woes
The latest Bournemouth injury update comes as a blow to their hopes of qualifying for Europe.
Bournemouth sit seventh in the league after 20 games – which would be good enough to play in Europe next season.
However, injuries to both Unal and Evanilson have left the Cherries short of attacking options.
The news means that Justin Kluivert or even winger Antoine Semenyo could play in a central attacking role.
However, Bournemouth could turn their attention to the transfer market given they can buy a replacement striker in the January window.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the January window is now ‘key to help Andoni Iraola’s side’.
