Bournemouth boss makes bold Manchester United claim as Harry Kane sent transfer message

Here are your Sunday evening Manchester United headlines.

Bournemouth claim

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil was left ruing a late missed chance as his side were edged out by Manchester United at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

United midfielder Casemiro scored the only goal of the game inside nine minutes, producing a brilliant overhead kick from close range after Christian Eriksen's lofted ball deflected off the boot of Marco Senesi. Erik ten Hag's side were far from their best but defended well for their three points.

RATINGS: Casemiro and Varane good in Bournemouth win

Bournemouth were kept relatively quiet but managed to carve out a few openings, the most notable being for Kieffer Moore, who saw his effort saved by David de Gea after racing through on goal with five minutes left. Senesi also saw a late volley from the edge of the box land on the roof of United's net, and O'Neil believes his side deserved something from the game.

"We were good, we gave everything in a close game," O'Neil told Match of the Day after full-time. "We were right in it and had a big chance at the end. It is Manchester United and we had players missing.

Shearer on Kane

Alan Shearer says he would be considering a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer if he were Harry Kane.

The England captain scored a wonder goal for Spurs against Brentford on Saturday, but Tottenham ended up falling to a 3-1 defeat against the Bees. The north London side are eighth in the table, with one Premier League match to play. They have won one of their last seven games - losing five.

And speculation surrounding Kane - whose contract expires in the summer of 2024 - continues to swirl. The Manchester Evening News understands that United have made the 29-year-old a target in the upcoming transfer window, as manager Erik ten Hag prioritises signing a first-choice centre-forward to spearhead his United XI.

One-club man Kane remains on the hunt for a trophy at club level, with that eluding Spurs once again this season. And Shearer feels now has to be the time for the striker to start looking at a new challenge.
