Bournemouth have announced the signing of midfielder Alex Scott after agreeing a £25m package with Bristol City. The teenager had been a long-term target for Bournemouth, who he played for as a youngster. Scott has not featured for Bristol City this season because of a knee problem, which will probably rule him out until September. He becomes the third player to leave Bristol City for Bournemouth in recent months, following in the footsteps of Lloyd Kelly and Antoine Semenyo.

The 19-year-old won the Championship young player of the year award last season and was one of the most coveted talents outside the Premier League.

Wolves wanted to sign Scott, who has been scouted by numerous top-flight clubs, but were unable to meet the asking price owing to financial fair play constraints.

The Cherries’ chief executive Neill Blake said: “We are delighted to welcome Alex to the club, who is one of the most exciting young players in Europe. He’s a player that has vast experience at such a young age with strong technical ability and a really good footballing brain. Alex will be an excellent fit in our system.”

Bournemouth also announced the £7m signing of Norwich full-back Max Aarons. The defender was poised to reunite with Daniel Farke at Leeds but Bournemouth hijacked the move, with the offer of Premier League football too good to turn down.

Burnley have agreed to sign 20-year-old Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa in a £14m deal. Ramsey spent last season on loan at Norwich and Middlesbrough. Villa have inserted a buyback clause and will do the same if they sell Cameron Archer in this window, though a loan remains more likely. Archer impressed last season at Middlesbrough and is Unai Emery’s only fit striker other than Ollie Watkins. Jhon Duran is expected to return in September.

Villa are pushing to sign the Galatasaray attacking midfielder Nicolò Zaniolo after Emi Buendía was ruled out for about eight months. Buendía sustained a knee ligament injury towards the end of training on Wednesday.

West Ham have completed the signing of the midfielder Edson Álvarez from Ajax for £32m on a contract to June 2028. “To join a club like a West Ham is a dream for me and my family,” the Mexico international said. “The Premier League is a special league, the best league in the world and I think my style will suit it.”
