All but one of Trafford ’s ward boundaries are set to be redrawn, and residents have just one more week to have their say on the plans.
New boundaries have been proposed for council wards across the borough and residents and local groups can give their views before the consultation closes on Monday February 7 2022.
The process is managed by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE), who want to hear what residents and local organisations think about the proposals. The 10-week consultation began on November 30 2021.

The LGBCE is the independent body that will ultimately decide on where the new boundaries will sit and it said the aim of the current review is to build electoral wards that ‘reflect communities and secure electoral fairness for future elections’.
The proposed changes aim to ensure all Trafford councillors will represent similar numbers of electors, and that the wards are drawn in a way that will allow the council to work effectively.
The commission has now published its proposal for changes to Trafford and is proposing that the current arrangement should be kept, under which Trafford has 21 wards with three councillors per ward.
Proposed changes include:
- 20 out of the 21 wards will have their boundaries changed.
- The existing wards of Clifford, Priory and St Mary’s to be renamed as Old Trafford, Sale Priory and Manor respectively.
- The M60 will be used as the boundary between Stretford and Urmston wards
- There will be a new ward of Barton and Lostock, covering the areas of Lostock, Kingsway Park and Dumplington (Trafford Centre)
- Changes to the boundaries in the south east of the borough will result in new wards of Timperley North, Timperley Central, and Hale Barns and South Timperley
- Carrington, Partington, Dunham Massey and Warburton parishes will be united in a single ward. This will also allow some electors previously in Bucklow-St Martins ward to be placed in either Ashton upon Mersey or Manor wards.
Having your say can be done online, via email or by post. The Commission has a dedicated section on its website ( Local Government Boundary Commission for England Consultation Portal (lgbce.org.uk) where residents can see the detail of the proposals and comment on the names of wards and their boundaries.
The deadline for submissions is Monday February 7 2022.
