Botswana Butchery fine wine collection up for auction

Who doesn't love a bargain?

Pickles Auctions has just launched a major unreserved premium liquor sale with fine wine up for grabs in the wake of the Botswana Butchery closure earlier this year.

With more than 630 lots of fine wine - each comprising about 12 bottles from a diverse range of varietals - from the chain's Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne restaurants, it could be a coup for wine enthusiasts and collectors.

"This auction provides a rare chance for wine lovers and collectors to access an exceptional range of premium wines at starting prices well below market value," Pickles executive director, finance and advisory Stewart Dodwell said.

"The collection includes wines that would typically be enjoyed in top-tier dining settings, now available to the highest bidder."

Botswana Butchery's subsidiary Good Group Australia went into voluntary administration in March, just four months after opening the fine dining restaurant's Canberra location.

The Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne restaurants closed in May, but the New Zealand entities were not affected.

When Botswana Butchery's Canberra store was open, it boasted an extensive wine list from the award-winning group sommelier Piers Haszard. It celebrated wines from the Canberra Wine District, as well as renowned regions in Australia and New Zealand.

"Each bottle tells a story of terroir and craftmanship, adding a unique touch to your dining experience," the restaurant posted to its Instagram in February.

The auction comes under the instruction of deed administrators BDO, and bids for the lots start at $1.

The auction - titled Premium Liquor Liquidation - runs until 8pm Thursday.

"The administration and deed administration of the Botswana Butchery restaurants has been a complex process," BDO national leader of business restructuring Duncan Clubb said.

"This auction will recover value for creditors. We encourage wine enthusiasts to participate in what promises to be a highly competitive and exciting event."
