Boston reportedly among frontrunners to sign Danilo Gallinari if bought out

After being traded to the San Antonio Spurs as part of the deal bringing All-Star point guard to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday afternoon, veteran wing Danilo Gallinari may be headed to the buyout market. According to NBA Italia’s Zeno Pisani that along with the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat, Boston is expected to be among the frontrunners for his services in free agency once his buyout is completed.

The 6-foot-10 wing has never been known for his defense, but his long-range shooting (career 38.2% from beyond the arc on 5.1 attempts per game), rebounding, and ability to move the ball a bit all tick off boxes that would make for a solid fit with the Celtics off of the bench.

A longtime friend of Pisani since Gallinari played for the Los Angeles Clippers, the Sant’Angelo Lodigiano native’s services will be in demand for the 2022-23 season.
