The Boston Red Sox have taken disciplinary action against Jarren Duran, suspending him for two games without pay following an incident during a game against the Houston Astros. Duran, who was struggling at the plate, responded to a fan's heckling with a homophobic slur, which was captured on a live mic during the broadcast.

The exchange occurred in the sixth inning when a fan at Fenway Park taunted Duran by shouting, 'Tennis racket! Tennis racket! You need a tennis racket!' In response, Duran turned towards the fan and used offensive language, including a homophobic slur.

Duran has since issued apologies both publicly and within the team, expressing remorse for his actions. The Red Sox, in their statement, announced that Duran's salary for the suspension period would be donated to PFLAG (Federation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays).

This incident took place shortly after Duran was recognized with the Heart and Hustle Award, an honor given to a player who exemplifies passion for the game and embodies its values, spirit, and traditions.

It is important to note that the use of homophobic slurs or any form of discriminatory language is unacceptable in any context. The Red Sox organization's swift response to this incident underscores their commitment to promoting inclusivity and respect within the sport.

As the team and Duran address the consequences of this incident, it serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals involved in the world of baseball.
