Boston outpaces Indiana sans Kristaps Porzingis 118-101 with big Jayson Tatum night

The Boston Celtics had a little something extra for the Indiana Pacers in their first tilt of the season with Indiana since the Pacers sent the Celtics packing in the elimination round of the inaugural in-season tournament,

Despite an unfriendly whistle in the first half, Boston’s clamps kept Indiana struggling from the field for much of the contest as the Celtics’ All-Star forwards picked up the slack for Kristaps Porzingis, who left the game early with an eye injury. Jayson Tatum (38 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists) in particular had a massive game, with Jaylen Brown (31 points), and backup big man Al Horford (10 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists) bringing the energy Boston needed for the win.

Reserve forward Oshae Brissett (8 points, 8 boards) also had a strong game off the bench.

The Boston Celtics next play the Indiana Pacers back at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the second half of an away-and-away series with the Pacers on Monday, Jan. 8.
