Many fans of the Boston Celtics might not be aware of how precarious life was for a young Jayson Tatum. The Celtics superstar grew up with nothing like a silver spoon in his mouth; his family often struggled to make ends meet. The St. Louis native recently opened up about that period of his life in a wide-ranging interview with the eponymous host of the “In Depth with Graham Bensinger” show.
Tatum spoke about all of the things his mother had to do without growing up as she worked overtime to keep a roof over her and JT’s head, nights with no utilities, and living under the threat of home foreclosure.
We also get to hear about some benefactors who helped them on their way.
Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear their tale in full.
