The highly anticipated Christmas Day matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers on December 25, 2023, lived up to its billing as the pair of basketball powerhouses clashed on the court.
The two old rivals played a close game until the contest’s fourth quarter when it became clear that the Lakers did not have the legs to stay in it with the Celtics, with strong games from All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum (25 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists) and star big man Kristaps Porzingis (28 points, 11 boards) on Boston’s side, and 40-point, 13-rebound performance from star L.A. big man Anthony Davis.
The Celtics came away with a 126-115 win to finish out their annual West Coast swing strong, heading back to face the lowly Detroit Pistons at TD Garden with the best record in the NBA as a result.
