Boston Celtics award grants to local, Black-owned businesses

Some organizations in the NBA say all the right things when it comes to fighting systemic inequity in their communities, but when it is time for the proverbial rubber to meet the road, it turns out that the franchise in question is more talk than it is action — or offers a handout instead of a hand up.

But the Boston Celtics have long been taking a different path towards helping their community overcome systemic issues, investing in minority-owned businesses in need of a boost to take the next step towards sustainability in the Celtics’ extended community throughout the northeastern US.

Now in its third wave of grants, Boston’s Power Forward Small Business Grant program awarded $25,000 to 14 Black-owned small businesses across every state in New England.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to learn more about what this program has been up to of late.
