The Boston Celtics beat the New York Knicks 108-104 in both teams’ season opener on Wednesday evening. Kristaps Porzingis, playing against his old team, made a noteworthy Celtics debut with 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots, and set a record for the highest-scoring debut with the Celtics in the process.
All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum secured 34 points and 11 boards to lead the Celtics. The Knicks showed resilience despite trailing 51-46 at halftime, even managing a 6-point lead with less than 4 minutes left on the clock in the game’s final frame. The Celtics, however, clawed back with Porzingis helping to change the game’s momentum with timely makes.
Derrick White added 12 points, and Jaylen Brown secured 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
