Boss makes 'foolish' comment as Arsenal deal leads to Nottingham Forest transfer link

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath has been linked with a return to his native America.

The 26-year-old has impressed in the last two games while stepping in for the suspended Brice Samba, keeping clean-sheets against Preston North End and Bristol City.

He is expected to retain his place for Friday night’s trip to Sheffield United, too, as Samba serves the last of his three-match ban for a red card in the 2-2 draw at home to Stoke City.

But prior to this latest run of fixtures, Horvath had to bide his time in waiting for his chance with the Reds.

And it seems his situation may have alerted at least one club in his homeland, with FOX Sports claiming New England Revolution have an “interest” in the shot-stopper.

The Revs are set to lose USA international Matt Turner to Arsenal in the summer, leaving them potentially looking to bring in a new addition - with Horvath said to have caught their eye.

"It would be foolish of me to comment on any player with another team," coach Bruce Arena said, when asked about Horvath.

On losing Turner, he added: "We have some time to plan. If we need to make an addition, we will. But we'll take a little time to analyse that."

Horvath made the switch to the City Ground last summer, penning a three-year deal as he joined as a free agent after leaving Club Brugge.

He featured in the Carabao Cup clashes with Bradford City and Wolverhampton Wanderers back in August, then endured a tough night in what proved to be Chris Hughton’s final match in charge, a home defeat to Middlesbrough in September.

The American said after the weekend’s win over the Robins: “It’s nice to be playing.

“While waiting, you just need to keep going every day. Take it day by day and just keep going, because you know people are watching. You know the manager is watching and his coaches are watching.

“It’s about showing that you are ready each day and not taking a day off.

“Now that I’m in the team, under the circumstances, I’m really, really enjoying it.

“I’ll try to enjoy this week, go to Sheffield and enjoy the game.

It’s down to the manager to pick what happens then, but I’ve really enjoyed it. All I can control is myself.”
