Liverpool may not have managed to bag a quadruple – but that doesn’t mean no one did.
A four-trophy haul may not be for Jurgen Klopp, Mo Salah, Luis Diaz or Sadio Mane, but a team closer to home achieved the incredible feat.
The slightly less exotic group of Colin Smith with the likes of Keir Knapp, Ritchie Mullen and Kris Chisholm scooped a whopping quadruple for Shortlees Amateurs.
A 2-1 victory over rivals Stewarton with goals from Knapp and Chisholm in a winner-take-all Ayrshire Premier League clash last week sealed the club’s fourth trophy of the season – just three weeks after lying bottom of the league.
A remarkable turnaround for the Kilmarnock side leapfrogged them from relegation fears to champions.
The league title along with the James Scott Trophy, West of Scotland Cup and Ayrshire Cup rounded-off a sublime season.
“Just the four trophies!” Proud gaffer Smith laughed, speaking to the Kilmarnock Standard.
“I’d have loved to have won the Scottish Cup, but that just didn’t materialise.
“Since Christmas the boys have been incredible, I think we won 18 and drew two, the boys have showed some amount of heart and desire to get us where we ended up.
“We won the league by a few points, so we deserved it.
“We were bottom at the start of May, obviously we had games in hand but you never know.
“We were a wee bit adrift, so you’re starting to think, ‘can we get relegated here?’
“The boys turn up and just want to play, they want to win, it’s unbelievable.”
He added: “We have had doubters all season, it’s nice to prove them wrong.
“People have been trying to get the boot in, it’s the way football is.
“Four trophies in my first full season, I am lost for words.”
