Trabzonspor are set to step up their bid to land Borna Barisic ahead of their crack at the Champions League.
But Record Sport understands there is also interest from Italy in the 29-year-old Croatian international full back.
Trabzonspor were crowned Turkish Super Lig champions for the first time since 1984 last season.
And manager Abdullah Avcı is looking to bolster his squad as they prepare for a play-off reach the group stage of European football’s premier competition.
Left back is a problem position with Polish defender Tymoteusz Puchacz returning to Union Berlin after a loan spell last season and Ismail Koybasi failing to impressed after signing last summer.
That has seen the Turkish side target Barisic, although AC Milan’s Senegal international Fode Ballo-Toure has also been linked.
Record Sport understands reports in Turkish outlet Fotomac of an official bid for Barisic are premature although it could soon be on its way while an unnamed Serie A side are also keen.
Barisic signed off from international duty following Monday night’s Nations League win over France, albeit he missed the game through injury, and is now on holiday.
The full-back’s priority is understood to be to remain at Ibrox with his contract running at Ibrox until 2024 but he could be forced into a rethink if Rangers accept a bid.
Meanwhile, reported Rangers target Joe Rothwell looks set to join Bournemouth with the Blackburn Rovers man previously said to have been on the Ibrox club's radar.
Both Giovanni van Bronckhorst and sporting director Ross Wilson were said to be admirers of the 27-year-old who is available on a free.
