Borna Barisic adamant Liverpool noise has nothing over Rangers fans at Ibrox as he weighs in on Anfield lore

Borna Barisic is convinced Rangers are finding their feet in the Champions League and can remain in Europe beyond Christmas.

The Croatia international reckons Gio van Bronckhorst ’s men are still in with a shout of finishing third in Group A, despite three successive defeats to Ajax, Napoli and Liverpool and with Jurgen Klopp’s superstars heading to Ibrox next week. Barisic saw enough in the second half of Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Anfield to believe that with the backing of a capacity home crowd, Gers can take something from that game and target Ajax - who were smashed 6-1 by Napoli - in the battle for a Europa League drop-out place.

With the Dutch outfit having beaten Rangers 4-0 in Amsterdam, they would have to lose their three remaining games and the Scots would have to take four points. The left back is refusing to rule that out, particularly with two of their last three matches in Glasgow. Barisic said: “Liverpool are a top team. But we are growing, we are learning and I think we will be much better at Ibrox. It is our home, our crowd. They are a 12th player for us.

“The atmosphere is still the best by far for me. With all due respect to everyone, I thought Anfield had a good atmosphere. But for me personally, not just because I am playing at Rangers, it wasn’t better than Ibrox. Maybe it’s because I have played in so many big games, played on so many big nights, but for me Ibrox is the best still.

“Of course we feel that we can finish third. The next game will be important. When we play at home it will be a little bit easier for us. But we also need to realise that all these teams play in front of away crowds, in front of 50,000, 60,000, 70,000 people. They are used to it. But we will fight to the end and try to go at least into the Europa League.”
