BORIS Johnson will host an extravagant wedding party at a grand country house in the Cotswolds owned by a billionaire Tory donor, the Daily Mirror has revealed.
The outgoing Prime Minister and his wife Carrie are set to host the bash for family and friends to mark their marriage at Daylesford House this weekend.
The Grade 1 listed home is owned by JCB chairman Lord Bamford who has given around £14 million in cash and gifts to the Conservatives since 2001.
It has been suggested that the Tory peer, who backed Johnson’s leadership bid in 2019, is covering some of the costs of the party.
It is understood that Boris and Carrie have organised a marquee in the 1500-acre grounds.
The couple initially planned to throw a wedding party at Chequers – the PM’s mansion but this led to accusations that Johnson was trying to delay his departure from No 10.
Indeed, on Monday, Boris said he wished he could “wipe away” his resignation and that he wanted to lead the Conservatives at the next general election.
The couple married in a secret ceremony in Westminster Cathedral in front of a handful of guests in May 2021, and wanted to host a fuller party when restrictions were lifted.
The close links between the Prime Minister and the billionaire Bamford family saw Boris visit the JCB factory in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire during the 2019 election campaign.
Boris used the trip to crash a digger with the words “Get Brexit done” written on it.
In the run-up to last May’s local elections, Boris used the JCB owner’s £47 million Gulfstream 650 private jet and helicopter to tour the country.
During the pandemic, Boris and Carrie had a £12,500 gourmet food supply provided by Daylesford organic, which is owned by Lady Bamford.
A box of shopping from Daylesford – one of Britain’s most expensive food stores – was delivered weekly to Downing Street.
