Oh bother, what’s blundering Boris done now?
Well, he basically struggled to turn on the Downing Street Christmas lights and Twitter had a field day.
The clip, captured last night, shows the prime minister getting the crowd of carol-singing children excited to see the tree outside Number 10 light up.
After a countdown, he flicked the switch only for the lights flicker on for a second before turning off again. The cheers died down before a couple of “ohs” could be heard.
Thankfully the lights remained on the second time Johnson pressed the button.
It took Prime Minister Boris Johnson a couple of attempts to make sure the Christmas lights outside 10 Downing Street were fully switched on... but he got there in the end. https://t.co/iKj5RlFzVl pic.twitter.com/EFY1jj5Hje

Naturally, people thoroughly enjoyed the blunder and shared their thoughts about the gaffe on social media.

Some branded him a “village idiot” whereas others shared memes comparing the prime minister to a clown (a slightly sensitive description given the latest apparent comments from Emmanuel Macron).

Why does he always look like he's putting the bins out?

Switching on lights is about all he’s capable of - and he probably needed help to get that right.

A shame they didn't work first time, like everything @BorisJohnson touches pic.twitter.com/vVjhoZhd07

Some also joked about the size of Johnson’s family. In September of this year, amid much speculation, the prime minister said that he has six children with a seventh on the way.
Nice that all his kids could be there 😂😂😂

Others, meanwhile, criticised him for not wearing a mask and asked if there was a party at Number 10. The party comment is in reference to the latest coronavirus restriction controversy to hit the government.

And didn’t wear a mask. ! One rule for Tories #ToryScum https://t.co/NwUb0VOyev

Did he have another party ?

Johnson was snapped without a mask on a train two weeks ago, and before that he caused controversy for not wearing a mask in a Northumberland hospital. He was also seen maskless next to 95-year-old legend David Attenborough at the Cop26 summit in Glasgow.
Johnson has also come under fire after refusing to deny that a Christmas party was held at Number 10 last year. During yesterday’s PMQs, Labour leader Keir Starmer said that Johnson is “taking the British public for fools.”
But we can only spot one fool….
The Number 10 Christmas tree blunder isn’t the only festive decoration to make headlines today. We also wrote about the hilarious reaction to the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree.
