Boris Johnson grabbed a 21-year-old woman and threatened her in a bar, it has been alleged.
Louisa Gosling broke her silence about a 30-year-old incident after reports of the MPs explosive row with girlfriend Carrie Symonds came to light.
Ms Gosling was a 21-year-old Cambridge graduate when Mr Johnson’s first wife, Allegra Mostyn-Owen, reportedly sought refuge at her flat in Brussels late at night after a blazing row with him.
The Sunday Times reported that Mostyn-Owens is understood to have made a serious allegation about his conduct and ended up staying for weeks.
She described her husband’s temper as frightening, Ms Gosling said.
Days later he followed her, grabbed her arm and ushered her into a bar, demanding to know what “lies” his wife had spread about him, Ms Gosling reports.
When Ms Gosling would only say that her pal had been upset, she says Mr Johnson swore and accused her of being a liar.
She alleges he warned her she had better watch out if she told anyone what his wife said about him, according to the Mirror.
His demeanour was bullying, aggressive, angry and desperate, according to Ms Gosling, who said she felt threatened.
"He was unpredictable. I didn't know what he was going to do next. He was looming over me... bullying me - I was scared."
Although she refused to reveal what had led to the encounter, Ms Gosling said: "Thirty years later - and now I am 51 - I am still scared of Boris Johnson ."
The incident took place in 1989, just after Mr Johnson moved to Brussels to be the Daily Telegraph's European correspondent.
Gosling was also living in Brussels as she worked as a trainee for the European Commission.
Ms Mostyn-Owen declined to comment on her friend's account, but held up an issue of the New Statesman magazine which had a cartoon on Mr Johnson in a cage on the cover under the headline "Restraining Order".
Mr Johnson declined to comment on the claims.
But yesterday he broke his silence about the row with his girlfriend that exploded when he spilt wine on her sofa.
When a fan teased him in Cumbria by telling him to lay off the red wine, he joked: “It is important not to spill a drop!”
