Boris Johnson said that no new Covid restrictions would be implemented in England before Christmas - and some people on Twitter are nervous.
On Tuesday, a video uploaded to Johnson’s Twitter account addressed the Covid response around Christmas.
“What I can say tonight is that, naturally, we can’t rule out any further measures after Christmas - and we’re going to keep a constant eye on the data, and we’ll do whatever it takes to protect public health,” he said.
Johnson added: “We continue to monitor Omicron very closely and if the situation deteriorates we will be ready to take action if needed.”
He continued to say that people can go ahead with their plans for the holiday season but should remain cautious. He also expressed his appeal for everyone to get the booster vaccination.
I wanted to confirm that people can go ahead with their Christmas plans.

But we’re keeping a constant eye on the data and can’t rule out any further measures after Christmas.

Johnson has faced a rebellion within his governing Conservative Party over some of the Covid-19 restrictions. The House of Commons approved Covid passes to enter large venues such as nightclubs. The vote was 369 to 126.
But Johnson faced quite the blow after 96 of his Conservative MPs voted against the measure.
According to a Reuters report on Monday, Britain noted that there were 91,743 new Covid-19 cases, which is the second-highest amount since the beginning of the pandemic and as Omicron spreads at a quickened pace.
Once people heard about Johnson’s message on Covid measures for the holiday, some felt nervous that he wasn’t acting now given Covid’s tendency to spread exponentially.

What’s the point in watching the data @BorisJohnson if you don’t act on it?

As if anyone takes him seriously anymore.
Thanks Boris Johnson

Thanks for
-Ignoring COBRA meetings
-Failing to provide PPE
-Care homes being abandoned
-Delaying
-Undermining messages
-Making Test and Trace a cash cow for chums
-Partying while people died
-Not closing borders for Delta
-NHS abysmal pay
-170k deaths pic.twitter.com/huGRbfl8CG
So Omicron continues to surge with a speed unlike anything we've seen before, the situation remains extremely difficult, and you'll do whatever is necessary to protect public health, but not until next week. Did I get that right? Does Omicron know it's got to go dormant?

I hope everyone will have the best Christmas they can.

But lurching from announcement to announcement isn't governing. The job of Government is to plan and prepare, not dither and delay.
Boris Johnson doesn't have a grip and our country is paying the price. https://t.co/fktq0LjlFI
Today is the darkest day, the shortest day with the least hours of daylight. But today is also the darkest day because the PM has decided to take a gamble. He announces he will not implement further restrictions BEFORE Christmas. He claims there is no evidence. Devastated for NHS

Remember what happened last year when "Boris saved Christmas"?

Big spike, lockdown and bodies piled high.
All about your popularity rather than sensibility.

We’re following the science as long as it does not interfere with Christmas and my standing in the Tory party. Boris Johnson’s unsurprising decision to hold off further Covid restrictions parsed tonight

I don't know about you but I reckon that saving lives would be quite a good thing to do this Christmas and it just looks like Boris Johnson passed up the change to do just that.

"We'll do everything we can to protect public health"-but you're not!

With exponential spread,by the time you get the evidence you say is lacking of the severity of Omicron & the level of hospitalisations it causes you will have no way back to prevent the huge numbers that result
