Boris Johnson is officially set to resign today (July 7) as the Conservative leader after ministers and MPs made clear his position was now untenable.
It is being widely reported that he will remain as Prime Minister until a successor is in place which is expected to be around the time of the Conservative Party conference in October.
News of his departure comes after more than 50 MPs have now resigned from government or party roles since Tuesday (July 5) with more handing in their resignation letters before 9am this morning.

One of those quitting today is the newly appointed Education Secretary, Michelle Donelan, who quit just 26 hours after being appointed by Mr Johnson.
The BBC's political editor Chris Mason reports: "Boris Johnson will resign as Conservative leader today - he will continue as prime minister until the autumn. A Conservative leadership race will take place this summer and a new prime minister will be in place in time for the Tory Party Conference in October."
Later, the BBC reported Downing Street has confirmed that he will step down and a statement is expected shortly.
After the news broke of the PM's intentions, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted there will be “widespread relief” that Mr Johnson is quitting, questioning whether it was “sustainable” for him to remain in the role until the autumn as some reports suggest.
